He was one of the great legends of popular music but few knew that David Bowie was also an avid collector of art. After he died in New York in 2016 his ‘secret’ collection became more widely known and eventually found its way to Sotheby’s in London for auction. 50,000 people queued for the preview days – to see the paintings and sculpture that had fascinated Bowie. It turns out that he had a discerning eye. And, as this programme shows, having the Bowie name attached means these pieces sell for record prices.
