Intriguing and valuable pieces being sold at auction around the world

This eternally popular series returns, following the action as a wide range of art, treasures, personal effects and antiques go under the hammer. We see sculptures by Henry Moore, paintings by Pissarro and Picasso and there’s even a masterpiece from Gustav Klimt, which is so expensive that no estimate can be published in the auction catalogue. Bonhams hold a special auction for vintage cars, including an 1897 Daimler that may fetch up to £250,000, and we see signed ballet shows from Margot Fonteyn and a guitar owned by Jimi Hendrix. However, it’s two special episodes from New York that really grab the headlines. In one we witness the auction of love letters that Jackie Kennedy wrote to Lord Harlech. Buried for more than 50 years, these letters shed new light on the little understood romance she had prior to meeting Aristotle Onassis. A second special is devoted to the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Thirty years after his death even hardened dealers gasped when the bidding on one of his works opened at 57 million dollars…
