Picking Up The Pieces

This compelling series follows three remarkable people filmed over the course of a year as they struggle to come to terms with painful upheavals in their lives.

We first meet Robert Brown, Britain's longest-serving miscarriage of justice victim. At 19 he received a life sentence for a murder he did not commit. After two failed appeals, his conviction was finally overturned in December 2002. This film follows Robert after his release as he tries to rebuild his life.

Programme two tells the story of Sarah Caltieri, a 24-year-old diabetic who has gone blind as a consequence of failing to manage her condition as a teenager. The film follows Sarah as the real consequences of losing her sight hit her at every turn. She can no longer work, she lacks the confidence to go out alone and this once independent young woman now has to rely heavily on family and friends.

The final programme records the individual experiences of Joy and Guy, who have both lost one of their children to suicide.
