DRG and Daro Film Distribution have jointly acquired distribution rights of the telemovie THE GREAT MINT SWINDLE and will launch the title at MIPCOM.
Produced by Cordell Jigsaw & Zinc Finger for Nine Network (Australia) THE GREAT MINT SWINDLE tells the story of Australia’s biggest gold heist. Three brothers were convicted of the crime, beginning a 23 year fight to clear their names before eventually being found innocent.
“It’s hard to imagine a more compelling crime story than The Great Mint Swindle,” said Executive Producer, Michael Cordell. “It’s a whodunit, a fight for innocence and a great character piece. For all those reasons we think the story will resonate very well internationally.”
The 90 minute telemovie stars Grant Bowler (True Blood, Ugly Betty, Lost), Todd Lasance (Home & Away, Tim Winton’s Cloudstreet, Crownies), Josh Quang Tart (Home & Away, Headland, McLeod’s Daughters), Shane Bourne (City Homicide, MDA) and John Bachelor (Sea Patrol).
First broadcast on Nine Network (Australia) on 11 March 2012, the film easily won its timeslot against tough competition and across all key demographics.
Daro is handling distribution for France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey, all Central & Eastern Europe, CIS, Baltics, Middle East, Maghreb and Africa.
