The most famous man in history left behind no physical trace – or did he?
This epic series returns with six brand new episodes, deciphering the life of Jesus of Nazareth through extraordinary artefacts and places associated with his birth, life and death. Utilising the latest state-of-the-art scientific techniques and archeological research, these artefacts and locations are examined and discussed by representatives of the world’s leading universities, including Harvard, Oxford and Brown, while the likes of Father James Martin SJ, Erwin McManus and Bishop Minerva Carcaño help bring our characters and their emotional journeys to life from a faith perspective. A 2000-year-old house is found under modern Nazareth; could this be the childhood home of Jesus? And what of the Tomb of King Herod? The monumental fortress of Herodium was unearthed in 2007 but does it really belong to him? Further episodes explore the lives of St Peter, Jesus’ lead disciple and the man believed by millions to have been the first pope, and Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor famous for sending Jesus to his death on the cross. We also have separate stories focusing on Lazarus, Jesus’ friend who he raised from the dead and Doubting Thomas. Thomas was an enigmatic disciple but it is believed he travelled to India and founded one of the world’s earliest churches. Beautifully shot dramatic reconstructions guide the individual stories, supporting the new insights and scientific research, and illuminating the lives of some of history’s most famous characters.
