Middle-aged and middle class, leading a middle-of-the road existence, Judi Dench is Bridget. She has been married to Mark (Ronald Pickup) for 20 years, and doesn’t even make much of a fuss when he discards her for a younger woman.
Instead, she opts to move out and accept her fate, living a quiet, solitary life of church work and evening classes.
However, things suddenly and dramatically change following a chance encounter which brings the drabness of her life sharply into focus. Flying in the face of accepted convention, Bridget, realising time is passing her by, decides to start living and commences a life of Behaving Badly.
